Why must I provide an email address?
When creating an account, we ask for your email address so we can contact you about your account, notify you when you receive community messages, and send you your password if you forget. When sending e-cards, we need the email address to which we will deliver the card. Your email address(es) are recorded in our database but per our privacy policy, we absolutely do *not* use them to spam you, nor do we sell mailing lists to 3rd parties. Our goal is to develop a World-class community website and user experience is our top concern, so we are not going to do something so short-sighted just to turn a quick buck.

Can people see my email address?
No. The email address you provide when you create your account is only for eRomance.com to communicate with you; no one can see your email address except administrators of this website. When you send messages to others within the community, those messages are "double-blind" meaning that you both can only send and receive the messages via the community, which keeps the true contact information completely anonymous.

How do I stop receiving emails from eRomance.com?
Log into your eRomance.com account. From the welcome page, click the Edit Account option. At the bottom of this page you will see three options to select email for three different situations. Un-check the items you do not wish to receive emails for. The update will be immediate.

Why don't I receive emails from eRomance.com?
Some Internet service providers (ISPs) have harsher spam filtering policies than others and can often times block out system-generated messages such as those eRomance sends to alert you when you receive an email. Additionally free mail clients such as HotMail and Yahoo! often put such notifications into your 'Bulk' directory and unless you go through there periodically you may not realize all the emails that are being diverted. In the case of an ISP, contact your provider that controls your email account to see if they may be blocking the messages. Or in the case of free mail, check that 'Bulk' directory and if you find a message from eRomance select 'Not Spam' to train the system not to block these messages any longer. Local mail clients such as Outlook or Eudora have similar bulk message concepts and can also be trained not to divert emails from specific senders.

How do I cancel my account?
If you have decided to cancel your account, you must first login to the account and then select the Edit Account option. On this page you will see a link to Cancel Account. Alternately there is also an option to Hide your account which makes it invisible to the community but easy to access and re-activate later, if you choose. As you make the decision whether to close your account, please note the account is 100% free and there is no detriment to leaving your account open ... but there is always the possibility someone may send you an email if you do. If you are closing your account because you have met someone then congratulations and we wish you the best. If you are just closing the account because you don't see anyone of interest at the moment however - why not just leave your account open and check back later? You never know who may sign up next week or next month!

How do I retrieve my password and username?
If you have forgotten both your username and password then you will need to contact the administrator to retrieve this information at webmaster@eromance.com. If you have simply forgotten your password, please use the Forgot Password link on the login page located here.

What is a flirt?
A Flirt is an opportunity to indicate that you are interested in someone, without having to compose a message. This is analogous to the flirting smile a woman might give a man in a public venue. It is essentially an invitation to the man to approach the woman and begin a dialogue. Men can use if too of course, though traditionally it is the women who sends the flirt and the man who reciprocates (we didn't make the rules!).

How do I upload my photos?
There is an opportunity to upload photos when you first create your profile. Additionally, each time you login to eRomance.com you will see a link to 'Edit Photos' at the bottom of the welcome page. You can go there as well to upload your photos. Photos must be ether Jpg, Jpeg, or Gif format (not simply named that way) and the file cannot be any larger than 2MB in size. Perhaps the most common problem we are seeing with file upload is someone taking a file that is not jpg or gif format and naming it (image.jpg) to try to make it upload correctly. This will not work! You must save the file properly as a jpg/jpeg or gif file.

Why should I upload a photo?
"A picture says a thousand words". There is so much you can tell a person by the expression on your face, the way you dress, and there's also a certain familiarity as you get to know the person. Would you be more comfortable meeting someone in person for the first time if you've seen a picture? Of course! So would anyone. Another aspect to consider is that there is an option to limit searches to only those with photos - and many people use this photo. In fact, profiles with photos are viewed 300% more often. It is not required to upload a photo but we highly recommend including one, for the very best results in online dating.

What is a good photo to upload?
A *good* photo is a clear photo of your face. Smile, and be proud of who you are! Avoid uploading photos of you with another person, where its confusing who you are. Also, avoid uploading provocative or obscene photos - they will be deleted. Focus on showcasing who you are and what your personality is. This will attract people who are truly interested in who you are.

Do you censor the content and profiles on this site?
Yes. We started the community with a policy of complete transparency and were not planning on censoring or filtering anything. Unfortunately we were soon overwhelmed by how many scammers and spammers were flocking to the site. It became painfully clear that we could not run a quality community without setting and enforcing quality guidelines. Now we have a sophisticated multi-layer filter that helps us monitor user profiles and content. We estimate this automated filter keeps the community 90% spam and scam free. We also manually monitor the site and rely on user reports of abuse, in order to address the remaining 10%. If you are aware of any possible scammers or spammers, or if someone is harassing you, please report it to the administrator immediately and we will be happy to take a look and will correct the issue, as warranted.

How do you address spam and online scammers?
We have created a sophisticated 7-layer filter that looks at many key aspects of a user's profile and user behavior, in order to determine the authenticity and legitimacy of profiles. Anything that is clearly scammer activity is automatically discarded and anything that looks suspicious is flagged for internal review. We take this issue *very* seriously and are happy to have a 95% success rate dealing with spam and scams. For those few we do not catch, we encourage our users to alert us of the remaining 5% to ensure we have a safe community. As a final precaution, we have provided several articles for our users to educate them on this issue so they know how to stay. safe. eRomance is committed to keeping it's users safe. What other free dating site can say they do this much for their users?

How can I report fraud someone who is harrassing me?
We take fraud and harassment very seriously. If you suspect someone of either trying to perpetrate a scam or otherwise harassment, please let us know immediately and we will review the account activity and terminate the offending member's account if necessary.
