Introduction
Romantic Compatibility™ is the compatibility prediction engine on eRomance®, which analyzes personality and indicates compatibility between two people. Rather than simply trying to match people up in the context of a dating site, the goal of Romantic Compatibility is to answer the question of why, by showing where potential points of friction might be, between two personalities.
The why dimension is revolutionary because it shifts the emphasis from a ‘black-box’ matchmaking service, to that of an educational experience, which teaches members how to identify compatibility, both online and in the real world. This is significant because too many people have spent too much time in relationships who’s failure could have been predicted, had they just understood what to look for in the beginning. With this understanding eRomance aims to educate it’s members about compatibility and about what they should be looking for to match their own personality profile.
How It Works
Romantic Compatibility uses a 20-question quiz to provide a quick-sketch assessment of a personality. As far as personality tests go this is rather short but the idea is to keep things simple, in order to engage people in the process, rather than turning them off with an overly-clinical and time-consuming process. While accuracy may not be perfect, such accuracy is not necessary since the system is only looking for broad ranges of compatibility.
There are five qualities that are assessed and four word-pair associations that a user is asked to rank themselves on to determine their overall rank for that quality. A user is asked to provide a 1-6 ranking between the word-pair to show which of the two words they relate to most. Each word-pair represents two-sides of a coin for an attribute commonly associated with that particular quality.
The answers to these questions are then aggregated to arrive at 5 primary personality qualities that appear to affect compatibility between two people. For compatibility, each of these five qualities is compared and must be within 25% proximity to be said to be a ‘good’ match and within 50% proximity to be a ‘fair’ match. Anything outside of 50% is considered a poor match.
