Fredericksburg
Fredricksburg
Fredericksburg, in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, has the essence and warmth of Texan hospitality, plus that of German heritage. Wild flowers, vibrant in a riot of colors, green meadows, bubbling streams, serene countryside, and with "‘thou beside me;" can romance be far behind? Time your visit for spring, when the wild flowers burst out in colorful carpets and prepare to submit yourselves to the urge to stay for the weekend, or even one night under the big Texas sky, if you feel adventurous. Fredericksburg has that effect on you! Texas Hill country has at least sixteen wineries along the Wine Trail, where you will find special events and tasting ceremonies. A car trip along this scenic countryside route can be heavenly!

Fredericksburg has a number of spas dotting its geography. Relax and rejuvenate in readiness for another season of love. Fredericksburg is also lavender country, so a bubble bath with fresh lavender is a special treat. And again, being peach country, Fredericksburg has seasonal fruit stands on the road sides, selling absolutely farm fresh, just-picked produce. The climate of Fredericksburg is said to induce extra sweetness to the fruits, so don’t miss all those peaches, strawberries, and blackberries.

Jefferson
Old House, Jefferson
Jefferson, Texans’ favorite small town, is what small town country is all about. This nineteenth century town has some of the most romantic spots in the country. Come away for the weekend; pamper each other at one of the many popular B&Bs in the area. Enjoy the old country comforts of big beds, waking up to the sun shining through stained glass windows, a real breakfast with farm fresh fare, cozy fireplaces to snuggle up in front of, and being waited on hand and foot or left alone as you prefer; as they say " the weekend is not enough."

Jefferson abounds in restored houses that are a real joy to visit. Take the Steam Boat at sunset for a most romantic evening, or the Steam Train along the river and have fun. There is also a gorgeous canoe trip, for the Mark Twain effect. They even give you a picnic in a French basket!

3. Galveston » Map It!   » Find Hotels
Galveston
Galveston Bay
The island city of Galveston is filled with the memories of a wealthy Victorian past. The historic homes and mansions are the pride of this now hotspot of tourism. There are about fourteen museums and twenty art galleries for the art lovers. You can also find more romance on the beach-- thirty miles of it. The beach is so relaxing, it is quite possible to spend the whole time you are there in your beachwear in repose. Did you know that East Beach allows you to bring your own bottle, unlike most public beaches?

Then there is the Galveston Island State Park, a 2,000 acre spread of camping, hiking, bird watching, or just relaxing with a picnic basket. Don’t miss Moody Gardens, a huge glass pyramid with a tropical rain forest inside, featuring waterfalls, flora, and fauna. When you are in the mood for private time together outside, put on your walking shoes and take the eight-mile walk along the seawall. For those interested, there is also opera, theater, and golf. Be assured of a small town treat.

4. San Antonio » Map It!   » Find Hotels
San Antonio
Riverwalk, San Antonio
San Antonio captures the true spirit of Texas; cosmopolitan progress, with the right blend of history and tradition. Starting from the Alamo, the almost shrine-like museum is revered by the true Texan. The La Villita, the San Fernando Cathedral, and numerous memoirs of history will whet the appetite of the culture buff. The Market Place, is another interesting piece of culture and the remnants of the one-time Mexican influence. Enjoy food and shopping to your heart’s content.

The real ornament of San Antonio is the River Walk. Twenty feet below street level, cobble and flag stoned and bordering both sides of the San Antonio River, this two and a half mile stretch of pure fun changes character according to its suburb. The ambience is pure country quietness in some stretches, while the European café culture and cultural bustle catches the mood in other areas.

The Rio San Antonio cruises are ideal for a quiet evening on board, watching the town in a cozy twosome, dining on the specialties of San Antonio. Good times and intimate moments await you in San Antonio.
