1. Music In the City
BBC Philharmonic
The BBC Philharmonic
Manchester offers the best in music, from west end musicals, to classic recitals. The names The Royal Northern College of Music and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra are enough hints for music lovers to adore Manchester. Discover each other's weaknesses with the ambience of music around you. If you are shivering at classical recitals, Manchester is equally famous for the post-punk era music, the direct raw, streetwise type, and was even called the 'Mad-chester' type of music.

Come summer, grab a blanket, fill a picnic basket with goodies and head out to Heaton Park to enjoy the best of the BBC Philharmonic. The open air concert brings alive some of the most popular classics and the whole event is crowned by a scintillating fireworks display late at night.

2. Salford Quays

This wonderful neighborhood is made for hand-in-hand strolling while enjoying the atmosphere and the views. The canal has a web of pedestrian bridges for you to choose from and you will see plenty of birds and pretty sights as you pass. The seaside village with its old Georgian houses is picturesque enough - add to it the romantic walk down the pier and the spectacular view of Old Trafford, the Imperial War Museum and the Lowry and you've found yourself a romantic spot for languid evenings.

Art Galleries and Museums abound in Manchester. The Awesome Urbis alone is worth a good chunk of your time, where your visit begins with a one-minute sky glide in the MEN Glass elevator. Manchester boasts of a unique Museum of Hatting, too; yeah, you got it right, Hats!

For those of you, who dig books, there is a rarity here, the Chetham's Library, which came into existence in 1653, and is the first Public Library in the world, which opens its doors free to the public. The Library houses more than 100,000 volumes, most of them out of print editions, printed before 1850.

5. Wigan Pier
The Orwell, Wigan Pier
The Orwell, Wigan Pier
This is a place for many things and activities. Enjoy a variety of exhibitions, participate in (or be a bystander) for demonstrations, indulge in the many performances and productions or merely browse and shop - the way they did back in the Victorian days of the early 1900s. Dedicated to that time in the past when things were colorful and risky, this is the perfect place for a couple in love to escape from reality into a world of old-fashioned trains and ball-gown wearing ladies. The Wigan Pier Theatre Company goes all out to make it an extra special occasion for you.

6. Christmas Markets
