Admire the Strolling Pond Garden with its mini waterfalls and Japanese Irises, sniff the air at the Tea Garden to capture the fragrant scents, and saunter through the Sand and Stone Garden to understand the Zen philosophy. Catch a glimpse of the Jizo statue in the Natural Gardens and gaze at the wonder of the white sands called the Shirakawa sand at the Flat Garden.



	Chinese Garden Portland also has a smaller Chinese Rose Garden located in Old Town and designed by artisans from Suzhou, China. In this garden, you will find the meaning of the symbolism in stands of bamboo and delicate trees, as well as little nooks where you can steal a private kiss.

	3. Portland Saturday Market

	Saturday Market Every Saturday from March to December, just west of the Burnside Bridge and Skidmore Fountain, is one of the most amazing handicrafts fairs you will ever see. Lively street performers and entertainers mingle with the crowd while shoppers search for everything from batik skirts to painted birdhouses. Food booths serve everything from spicy burritos to deliciously sweet elephant ears, best eaten as you stroll along people watching and checking out the vendors' wares.

	4. The Grotto

	The Grotto Sixty-two acres of beautifully landscaped botanical gardens and a spectacular view of the city from the top of the cliff ranks the Grotto high on the list of romantic things to do for lovers in Portland. It doesn't matter what religion you follow (or not) - this Roman Catholic shrine is a place for universal love and togetherness. Walk through the gardens, shop at the gift shop, and visit the Shrine of Our Lady's Grotto, which has an altar and visions carved into the mountainside. Watch out for a variety of annual festivals including the Festival of Lights.

	5. Go For a Picnic

	Washington Park Picnic Grab a picnic basket packed with yummies and head for one of the scenic parks in Portland. Go to Mount Tabor Park for a quick hike before lunch and a stunning view of downtown from afar. Are you spending time in the city and want to get away while remaining close? Go to Laurelhurst Park where the thick trees block all traffic noise and the lovely ponds and wandering trails allow you to lose yourselves for hours on end. Head east of the city to the Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah Falls to enjoy your picnic lunch. Relax in the mist of the falls, or hike the trails. Washington Park, the Oregon Zoo, and Westmoreland Park are other great picnic spots. If you have the whole day together, take your picnic along for a scenic drive to Mt. St. Helens Volcanic Monument. If you are lucky, the mountain may reward you with a plume of ash.

	6. Skiing!

	Mt. Hood Meadows Come winter, if you and your loved one are both snow and ski fans, you must head out to Timberline Lodge and ski area. The lodge has charming rooms with glowing fireplaces, a heated swimming pool and whirlpool, and chairlifts to take you to three hundred acres of skiing fun. Pack the gear, grab the skis, and take your sweetie on a surprise ski date. The spectacular views and amazing landscape, not to mention the cold weather, will provide many opportunities to cuddle up.
