Hi I live in the U.K. and would say that you would be very safe travelling here.
I have also been to France, Belguim, Malta, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Sri Lanka, and Margerita and never felt anything but safe.
I have never been to the USA and must say that I would be nervous about travelling alone is some areas.
