Does it really matter how a guy proposes? My friend did a soppy act and won his girl over. Isn't a simple 'will you marry me?' or 'let's get married' good enough?

Depends on the guy and the girl - I don't think there's one "perfect proposal" for everyone. A friend of mine got proposed to over the phone after dropping her boyfriend off at the airport for a business trip - he said he didn't want to have to leave her ever again. She said yes! :)
