PRISCILLA SAYS:
I found true love online almost 20 years ago. I was in Ct. he was in KY. We both worked for a company called Q-Link, which was for Commodore Comuputer users. This later became AOL. We were both what they called "q-guides" and used to chat with each other during our shifts. We started speaking on the phone, then met in person. I moved to KY, and we had 18 and a half wonderful years together. He died in August 2005.

So yes, it is possible to find your love on line, just be patient, and careful.

LMSLORI SAYS:
I reported a scammer on this site and they promptly removed him - just like the 2nd one down here with no pic -he's been removed as well. The one that I spoke with was very active here - he went by the name Matt Wilkins but his name under his pic was v_white. Very handsome picture stolen from some model site. He was a nigerian scammer. I had no idea of these scams, but went searching when he finally got around to asking for money. They often say the are working out of the country and can't cash their paychecks and want you to send them money via Western Union. He didn't get that far with me before I shut him down, blocked him in IM and email.

I immediately did a search for dating scams, and couldn't believe what I found. There's a website called romancescams.com that feature a lot of these scammers. Most are from Nigeria and have some sob story about being robbed, mugged, need money to get their child out of the country, need money for an operation, etc. You should visit that site - it's a real eye opener. Yahoo has a group for the same purposes. I couldn't believe how many innocent women, and men, have been scammed out of their hard-earned money. Be very careful. They usually want you to go straight to IM and they have very bad english and grammar, even though they claim to be from the US and are just working abroad. They use cos or cuz instead of because, start sentences with am instead of I am, etc. That's a huge red flag. They don't know simple american phrases - mine didn't know what "laid off" meant. They fall in love with you immediately. That was very suspicious to me - how could he feel so strongly for someone he just met? They are very clever about their own details. Everything he told me about the oil rig he was supposedly working on off the coast of Holland was verifiable. They don't like to answer personal questions and take a lot of time to respond on IM - probably because they're chatting up 5 different women at the same time. Be careful out there!

Sure it will work. But you will probably go through a lot of bad apples (or dates) before you find a good one. My biggest problem with dating in my hometown is that my daughters know all the guys! So far the two guys that have been interested in me there were both shot down by my daughters! Its a good thing though, because what they told me about those 2 guys made me NOT want to date them.

That's the perils of living in a small town single though. Hoping that here I can at least make some friends in some of the nearby towns in my area!

ANYNDEL SAYS:
After having been shot down by nice gals, in many rude and/or hurtful manners, I'm willing to give online dating a chance. Besides, it has the added advantage of giving people a chance to fall for each other without looks getting in the way.

So is it real or fake? I guess that depends on the attitude of the people using it. Some people will use it just to have a good time at the expense of those who are here to actually find love or what ever they are searching for.

ANNS53 SAYS:
I agree that a lot of people are online to spend some empty hours checking out the action and have no intentions of hooking up with anyone. Unfortunately, they don't wear a sign around their necks explaining this and just waste a lot of other people's time ... people who sincerely want to find the right partner for life.

It would be so nice if they specified this in their profiles, but that's just wishful thinking ... try asking them a specific question that will explain their motive for being online. Maybe something like ... "Are you really looking for forever? Are you wanting Miss Right or Miss Right Now?" Assuming they will tell the truth is another topic for discussion!
