1. Biking in Santa Monica |
| Bicycling on the Beach |
Santa Monica's Pier and Third Street Promenade are always popular and so are the Farmer's Market and the beach. Did you know about the bike path that leads all along the beach, right down to Dockweiler Beach near Venice? Grab a pair of bikes and set out to catch the sun.

2. Historic Core Walking Tour |
| Pershing Square |
For architecture lovers, the Los Angeles Conservancy's Historic Core Tour is a Saturday must. This two-and-a-half-hour survey of the area around downtown's Pershing Square, highlights our city's beaux-arts and art deco past. Knowledgeable docents share forgotten lore and provide a crash course in preservation appreciation.

3. Float on the Bay |
| Venice Canals |
It is not the canals of Venice, but if you are hoping to rev things up romantically with your honey, then this one-hour cruise on Alamitos Bay may be the answer. Floating through the bay is a lovely way to spend an evening--it certainly leaves more of an impression than dinner and a movie.

4. Have a Whale of a Time |
| Sculptor Park |
Los Angeles Harbor is the departure point for whale watching tours during the month of February. Take a day off and ride out into the ocean to see groups of whales splash and spray as they migrate from Alaska to Baja.

5. Hike the Hollywood Sign |
| Hollywood Sign |
You cannot really get to the Hollywood sign, but you can park near the intersection of Beachwood Drive and Hollyridge Drive, walk up Hollyridge Drive to the beginning of Hollyridge Trail on the left. Following the ridge leads to Mulholland Trail, then to Mount Lee Drive and the best views from above and behind the sign. Reach the trail's summit on a clear day and enjoy an expansive southern view well past downtown to the east and west to the ocean.

6. Dockweiler Beach |
| Dockweiler Beach |
Just south of Marina Del Rey, Dockweiler Beach is near the charming town of Playa del Rey, a neighborhood as nostalgic as it is upscale. The beach is quiet and there is a long bike track leading inland all the way across the Marina, up to and beyond the 405 freeway. Evenings are a tumult of volleyball games and bicyclists, but you can still expect to have a great time walking or lazing on the beach.

| Getty Museum |
Perched high atop the Santa Monica Mountains, overlooking the 405 freeway, the Getty Center is a sprawling, stone-and-glass complex dedicated to the display and preservation of the J. Paul Getty Trust's collection of mostly European art. Designed by architect Richard Meier, the 24-acre site offers a sweeping east-to-west panorama of everything from Hollywood to the Pacific Ocean--views worth a visit all by themselves. Best of all, admission is free.
