Santa Barbara Beach
Santa Barbara is a sleepy, seaside town with beautiful beaches and plenty of action. Rent a bike and navigate the many paths cris-crossing this community. Eat at one of the many popular restaurants and bistros here. Browse the art exhibits and fair that are set up along the beach on weekends and find everything from antiques to jeweler in the local shops and boutiques. Surf, swim, para-sail, take a whale watching tour, or simply laze on the sand - this is Sunny California at it's best.

Solvang is a little Danish village, complete with fields of endless tulips and aromatic bakeries. It is like a picture postcard come to life. Book a room at one of the adorable inns or bed and breakfasts and spend a happy weekend antiquing, shopping, and sampling the wares. Buellton is home to Anderson's Pea soup and the Hitching Post, two landmark eateries that will imprint themselves on your mind. Wine tasting tours and ostrich farms are just some of the other attractions here.

Palm Springs Tram
Late in the 1930s, electrical engineer Francis F. Crocker dreamt up what became, in 1963, the first passenger-carrying tram that traveled up more than 12,000 feet of cable to reach the top of Mt. San Jacinto. The trams make two full rotations during the 15-minute journey, offering stunning views of the Sonora desert as well as jagged mountain landscapes. Shop at the gift shop, hang out on the observation deck, and then dine at the Top of the Tram Restaurant.

Mission Capistrano
Founded in 1776, this restored mission has become both a historical treasure and a community center. Each March, the return of the swallows from Argentina is celebrated. In October, there is a Pirate Festival, an elaborately costumed re-creation of an 1818 raid. The second Saturday of every month is Living History Day, a family favorite. On weekend nights in the warmer months, big bands swing in the courtyard.
