The drive from San Diego to Los Angeles is a short and pleasant one. Go over to California's most happening city on a weekend and sample the wonders of LA. You have no dirth of things to do here. You will find whatever you are looking for here - LA is the city of dreams where lovers can always find a great place to share private moments. Walk down to the Santa Monica Pier and take a ride on the Ferris Wheel overlooking the Pacific Ocean, enjoy a symphony at the Walt Disney Hall, shop at one of the many glittering, shimmering malls, and make the most of your time in LA is the place to be, especially when you are in love.

2. Stay Local In La Jolla » Map It!   » Find Hotels
La Jolla Beach
La Jolla Beach
La Jolla is just a twenty minute drive from San Diego, but has enough to do to justify an overnight stay. Start with La Jolla Shores, great for swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, and surfing. La Jolla Cove is arguably the most beautiful stretch of waterfront in the region and low tide is the best time to enjoy the tide pools – usually packed with hermit crabs! In summer, don’t forget to catch the free concerts-by-the-sea at Scripps Park. Pack a picnic basket and take long, leisurely walks, especially at sunset when the sky is a riot of color. Lunch is also a good time to try out one of the many superb restaurants since most are less expensive during the day than at dinnertime. After catching a play at the famed La Jolla Playhouse, spend the night at a cottage in the village or one of the many hotels.

If you’re here on a Sunday, take in a brunch at The Cottage or The Marine Room. Experienced surfers can head to Windansea Beach, while others can go kayaking or to the Birch Aquarium. Spend the afternoon shopping at the boutiques in the swanky village or take a guided walking or biking tour around the town before heading back.

3. Laguna Beach » Map It!   » Find Hotels
Laguna Beach
Laguna Beach
Laguna Beach – though just nine square miles – has beaches, hills, and canyons, making this picturesque coastal town a favorite destination for weekend getaways. Crystal Cove and Aliso Beach are great for sun, sand, and surf. Crystal Cove has a beach which merges with breathtaking woodland that is perfect for biking, hiking, or camping. In the waters – a designated underwater park – indulge in scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, and kayaking. Heisler Park is a great place for picnics and later, you can pick an oceanfront restaurant to dine in while watching the sunset. The town also boasts of several trendy nightclubs and jazz bars.

Laguna Beach plays host to several art festivals in the summer, including the Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters, not to mention the Sawdust Art Festival. In the fall and winter, you can look forward to a number of free concerts and crafts shows, while the art galleries and boutiques remain year-round attractions. The town also has a number of sports facilities for tennis, volleyball, and golf, but if you really want to wind down, simply schedule a full range of treatments at a local spa and just laze away the afternoon.

4. Corando Island » Map It!   » Find Hotels
Hotel Coronado
Hotel Coronado
Coronado is one of the most charming locales around San Diego. Perched on a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay, you can reach it by driving across the Coronado Bay Bridge or taking a ferry ride across the azure waters. You can drive around the island, but a more enjoyable option would be walking, renting a bike, or taking a "pedicab" to take in the spectacular sights all around. The star attraction, of course, is the historical Hotel del Coronado that can be viewed from Coronado City Beach or while walking through the gardens along Orange Avenue.

Spreckels Park turns into an outdoor art gallery on the first and third Sundays of the month and hosts free concerts on Sunday evenings throughout the summer months. If you’re visiting in April, don’t miss the Annual Flower Show or the Motorcars on Main Street, while October is the time to catch the Chrysler Classic Speed Festival.

5. Palm Springs to the East » Map It!   » Find Hotels
Palm Springs
Palm Springs
Palm Springs is famous for the natural hot water springs and today, there are literally thousands of pools in which to take a dip. The town also offers fine spas, where you can be rejuvenated before indulging in holiday activities.

There are, of course, the 100+ championship golf courses. If you are the outdoor types, but not into golf, there is Mt. San Jacinto, where you can go hiking or horseback riding. If you prefer something a little more relaxed, take the aerial tramway and enjoy breathtaking scenery on the way up from the desert to the snow-capped peaks. There is also a driving tour of the San Andreas Fault, where you can explore the canyon in a 4x4. Another easy tour is an electric car ride across a wind farm, where thousands of windmills generate electricity. Back in town, there is a plethora of restaurants and boutiques, as well as the Air Museum to spend a leisurely afternoon. The star struck, of course, can go see the celebrity homes that dot the town. After dark, hit one of the casinos and try to win back the dollars you spent on your dream vacation here.
