Montego Bay
Romantic Montego Bay Getaway

Romance succeeds best when nature provides the props. Take the Caribbean Islands as a case in point. Gorgeous inlets, like Montego Bay, set the stage for love and togetherness with the sparkling white sands, blue waters, and cozy, palm-shaded niches. Here, the beat of your hearts will dance to a rhythmic, ocean-reggae mix and your dreams will caress you like soothing sea breezes.

Located south of Cuba, Jamaica languishes in tropical splendor. The entire coastline of the island is a beach and Montego Bay is the perfect location for love and romance. Lying on the north-west coast, "Mobay," as it is referred to locally, attracts millions of tourists year round. The natural harbor, national maritime parks with unusual sea life, and reef forms, set against a backdrop of kingly hills, qualifies it as the Eden of the Caribbean.

Every place has a past and Montego Bay is amongst one of the first landings made by Columbus, who christened it "Gulf of Good Weather." Not surprisingly, the glorious days and balmy nights will make you wish you could never leave! Tourism is the leading industry, even though this carries the stigma of the "hustlers of Jamaica."

Montego Bay has all the ingredients of a romantic getaway. Students descend on the beaches during school break. They bask in warm sunshine and dance in skimpy, beach and body-baring attire to Bob Marley's absolutely foot tapping and irresistible music.

The weather is what romance ordered - idyllic and addictive. Prime time is between April and December. In early August, there are Reggae fests, with amazing music from local talent.

Food here is tropically delicious and the fare combines pineapples, mangoes, and seafood in many exotic combinations. Restaurants and bakeries have their own special creations to offer and refreshing coconuts can be bought anywhere for a few "Jays," or Jamaican dollars.

Gloucester Avenue

Beaches abound. For a fee, you can enjoy the private resort and hotel beaches. They are often better than the public beaches for peaceful enjoyment of sun and sand. Beware that you do not give the impression that you have just come off a cruise ship! You might end up like some tourists, who have had very unpleasant experiences with local hustlers hounding them to buy their wares. The trick is to play the seasoned tourist and keep to the more populated Gloucester Avenue for eating, shopping, or clubbing. Venturing downtown should be on an as-needed basis only.

Whether you want to walk or laze on the pristine beaches, swim, scuba dive, or boat in the warm, azure seas, shop for amazing island souvenirs, or just dance until the sun goes down; Montego Bay is the place to be. Come where love is; come to Montego Bay.
