San Francisco Getaways

San Francisco
Romantic San Francisco Getaway

There is just so much to do in San Francisco - the amazing sights, sounds, and tastes will keep your senses tingling for a long time to come.

San Francisco, located in Northern California's Bay Area is a place of old world charm, modern thought, beautiful vista, and mouth-watering cuisines. It is the perfect vacation spot for a loving couple. Activities and getaways abound in this amazing, down-to-earth, yet dreamy city.

Just walking through the neighborhoods is like taking a journey back and forth in time. Old-fashioned houses share walls with sparkling, modern constructions. A drive is more like a roller coaster ride. Do not attempt to navigate this city in a car if you have little, or no, sense of direction - the streets wind over rising terrain, turn back on themselves and become one-ways without warning, so it is easy to lose your bearing, especially with the colorful sights all around. The BART light rail, streetcars, and busses are a safer bet.

This is a place where the past lingers alongside new developments. If you ask any San Franciscan, you will hear tales of earthquakes and fires, legends and revolutions, mining and railroads. There is so much to see and explore that you may want to extend your stay.

Golden Gate Bridge
Golden Gate Bridge
Go up into the hills to catch your breath as you gaze at the sweeping panoramas of the orange Golden Gate Bridge stretching across the horizon and the infamous island of Alcatraz in the foreground. Then, drive down to either end of the great bridge and walk across the two-mile stretch, admiring the boats and vessels in the bay below. If it suddenly begins to rain on a sunny day (this happens often here), you might be treated to a magnificent rainbow-a sight that rivals the bridge.

Fisherman's Wharf
Fisherman's Wharf
Explore the streets and admire the buildings as you make your way over the world's most crooked street - Lombard Street. Then, descend to Fisherman's Wharf for a bowl of steaming hot clam chowder served in huge round rolls of bread. Shop at Pier 39 to find all sorts of deals and souvenirs. Ride the cable car with your sweetie or visit Ghirardelli Square to share an ice cream sundae. Take a boat ride across the bay and view the great Golden Gate Bridge from a different angle.

Napa Valley Wine

Plan your trip so that you have time for a few day trips - visit Napa Valley and sample California's best wines or drive to Sausalito for great shopping. Visit the little known, but completely baffling, Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, where gravity plays tricks on you.

There is just so much to do in San Francisco - the amazing sights, sounds, and tastes will keep your senses tingling for a long time to come.
