What could be more romantic than a beach wedding? Water Cay and, not to be put off by the name - South Sound Cemetery Beach - are all quiet, pristine, and perfect ocean settings for an unforgettable wedding. Almost everyone speaks English in Grand Cayman. Christianity is the major religion, so getting a priest or pastor, if required, will not be difficult. The best venue for a grand wedding is Smith's Cove, which is close to the hotels/resorts in George Town. Here, activities like beach games, snorkeling, and swimming beckon guests.
After everyone has had their fun, have a wonderful meal, replete with tropical drinks, exotic fruits, and a variety of seafood. Water Cay Beach is smaller and more secluded, but the waters are just as alluring and families of orange starfish might even join your celebrations. The South Sound Cemetery Beach has a dock and the same privacy and quiet crystal waters lapping at the soft, clean sand.
2. An endless stretch of Beach
7-Mile Beach
Not enough is written about this stretch of nature's wonder. The sand is silvery white and the texture is divine. Sip drinks at bars, swim, use the showers, or lounge on deck chairs, all for a fee.
3. Georgetown
Georgetown
The island's capital, George Town, is the most happening place on the island, especially when cruise liners bring in crowds of tourists. Here, architecture and history are gleaned from the Museum and the old, colonial homesteads. Your guide is sure to throw in tales of one-eyed pirates, mermaids, slaves, and Bluebeard.
Batabano, Grand Cayman's carnival in late October, displays the adventurous theme with firecrackers and gold-bedecked pirates in mock fights. Duty-free and local souvenir shops cluster in the heart of downtown. You can shop for gemstones of good clarity, hi-fi duty-free gadgets, Cuban cigars, turtle shells, shell souvenirs, and postcards. Accommodations in the resorts and hotels are top class as are the restaurants and bars. The Royal Palms Beach Bar is known for its glorious sunset cocktails. After your visit to Georgetown, the rest of your stay can be devoted to the island's natural attractions.
4. Butterflies and Turtles
Butterfly Farm
The miracle of Butterfly Farm is a few minutes away from the Seven Mile Beach. On a sunny morning, the world's most beautiful butterflies flutter around tropical flowers and exotic plants. The guide will take you through the stages of metamorphosis and you can take some of your best pictures there.
Turtle farming constitutes a big portion of the islands' export revenue. These green, gentle sea giants can weigh as much as 700 pounds, or more. At Turtle Farm, you can see thousands of these creatures and watch the process of farming. From here, you can visit Hell, a town known for rock/coral formations in mysterious shapes.
5. Sea splendor
Snorkeling
Some of Grand Cayman's best memorable moments revolve around the ocean. Swim or dive underwater and see the ocean floor clearly along with a host of colorful fish. The sights of Grand Cayman, like a waterfall gushing out of coral reef hills or the charm of East End - a perfect diving spot, will remain with you forever. Snorkel in Cayman Brac to collect heart-shaped shells or Stingray City, on Sand Bar, to hold and feed stingrays in shallow waters.
Take a submarine from Turtle Cove to go 800 feet deep into the Caribbean Sea. The Atlantis XI Deep Explorer and the Nautilus are excellent vessels, perfect for such underwater trips. Angling and ocean kayaking around this beautiful island are other popular activities.
