Together with your partner, take in the huge "Native People of the Southwest" exhibit that displays a Navajo Hogan, as well a Hopi corn grinder. The beautiful Kachina doll gallery allows visitors to admire the number of different Kachina spirits that dominate the Hopi and Zuni religions. The first weekend in March, you can experience the traditional dances, arts, and crafts during the Indian Fair and Market. There are a few artists' communities located within an hour's drive from Phoenix. The communities of Carefree and Cave Creek are very popular western attractions. Stop by the Deer Valley Rock Art Center to see the petroglyphs. The site of Arizona's first known civilization is an hour's drive from the south side of Phoenix. Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is a magnificent testament to the endurance of the Hohokam, who first established agricultural practices here a thousand years ago. |
