As a provincial capital of Ontario, Toronto is a Canadian city with a population of over five million inhabitants. With about 42% of the population born outside Toronto, you will find that this is a global city with a multicultural influence. Come and mingle with people from diverse backgrounds and you will find that Toronto was the meeting place and home to many of the First Nations groups on the shores of Lake Ontario. The French started trading at Fort Rouille in 1750. Then, the European loyalists came in droves as they tried to escape the American Revolution. Toronto was at first known as York and was the capital of the new colony of Upper Canada. During the 19th century, Toronto was home to many immigrants. The Township of York became the City of Toronto on March 6, 1834. By the second half of the 20th century, Toronto overrode Montreal as the most populated city.

Follow the pilgrims' progress and find that the Torontonians populated an area called the Golden Horseshoe in Ontario, which is now home to over eight million people. Toronto is bordered by Lake Ontario on the South, Etobicoke Creek and Highway 427 to the west, Steeles Avenue to the north, and the Rouge River to the east. The Humber River in the west end and the Don River in the east intersect the city. With your love by your side, hike on of the many trails that wind through the thick green forests, ravines, and the green belt region from the Greater Toronto Area, a 7,200 square kilometre area from Niagara Falls to Peterborough.
